Glossary

Definitions for the metrics and terms used across the platform.

Data & tracking

No public download count

Overwolf’s counter returns "0" both for genuinely-zero and for apps that simply don’t publish a count. 0 and empty both mean "no public count", so the site renders them as an em dash (—) — never as a real zero.

Change history

Field-level diffs detected between scrapes — title, version, description, downloads, and lifecycle events like listing and delisting. Powers the Changes feed and each app’s change timeline.

Delisted

An app that disappeared from the Overwolf App Store. Delisted apps are kept for historical context but excluded from rankings and aggregates by default.

Snapshot

A point-in-time reading of an app’s public download counter, captured on every scrape. Trends and velocity are computed from the snapshot series.

First tracked

The date this site first discovered an app — not its store release date. Freshness and age claims use the store’s own last-updated date instead.

Market metrics

TAM

Total Addressable Market. The total download or user opportunity available across the store.

HHI

Herfindahl-Hirschman Index. Sum of squared market shares. >2500 = highly concentrated, 1500–2500 = moderate, <1500 = competitive.

Gini coefficient

Measures inequality from 0 (perfect equality) to 1 (one entity has everything). >0.8 = extreme inequality.

Pareto (80/20)

How few apps account for 80% of total downloads. The smaller the group, the more top-heavy the market.

Market share

An app’s downloads as a percentage of total platform downloads (among apps that report a count).

Monopoly

When one app controls more than 60% of reported downloads within a game’s ecosystem.

Mean/Median ratio

How skewed a distribution is: the average divided by the median. Above ~5× means a few giant apps drag the mean far above the typical app, so trust medians first.

Percentiles (P25–P99)

Download thresholds across the catalog. P50 is the median; P90 is the top-10% cutoff; P99 is the top 1%. Computed over apps that report a public count.

Apps & platform

Electron

Overwolf Electron apps are standalone desktop apps that don’t depend on the Overwolf client.

Classic

Traditional Overwolf apps that run inside the Overwolf client overlay.

Velocity

Downloads per day: total reported downloads divided by days since the app was first tracked (a lower bound, since tracking may start after release).

Completeness

Listing score from 0–10 based on: description, icon, screenshots, social links, creator bio, games, categories, features, and ratings.

Engagement rate

Percentage of downloaders who leave a rating. Higher = more engaged users.

Ecosystem score

A 0–100 score for a game’s app ecosystem, combining how many apps target it, their total reported downloads, average rating, and listing quality.
